Berlin Sincerely: A Walk to the Kreuzberg Wasserturm
Berlin takes on a new character when the sun shines. You walk, you look, you notice things that weren't there before.
But they were. In winter you walk through Berlin with shoulders shrugged, hands pushed deep into pockets, and hat pulled down to your eyes. I walked from Bergmannstrasse to Fidicinstrasse. The Bergmannkiez is always enjoyable to stroll around — winter or summer.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice
Along Nostitzstrasse, turn left into Arndtsrasse, past the old “Hai Bar”, (Shark Bar) which isn’t called that anymore. Up the slope to pass Chamissoplatz and finally a dog-leg that takes you to the Kreuzberg Water Tower, (Kreuzberg Wasserturm). I wanted to have a look at it. To stop and inspect its walls, and its doorways. To get a feel for it.
As I walked, I thought about the countless years of Berlin’s history. Especially the connection to the many artists and business people who have left their mark on the streets and walls of Berlin.
